Aliakbar Gulasan, Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) sole representative in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, will not support the current state government and will sit with the opposition, says PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin said the decision followed discussions held at a meeting yesterday.
“He is a Pas member and will serve solely as an assemblyman, without joining the state government,” he was quoted as saying after a meeting of the Malay secretariat committee in Putrajaya today, reported Utusan Malaysia.
Aliakbar made history by securing Pas’ first-ever elected seat in the recent Nov 29 state election.
Contesting on the PN ticket inĀ Karambunai, he emerged victorious in a tightly fought 11-candidate race, winning 7,054 votes.
He narrowly surpassed his closest rivals, with Warisan securing 6,689 votes, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) 4,818 votes, and Barisan Nasional 4,475 votes.
Previously, Aliakbar, who is also Sabah PN vice-chairman, held a seat in the assembly through nomination by the state government after the 2020 state election.
In the recent polls, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah won 29 seats and allied with Pakatan Harapan, BN, Upko, and five independents to form the state administration.
Warisan, which captured 25 seats, now forms part of the opposition alongside Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku leader Jeffrey Kitingan, who was re-elected in Tambunan.
